Preparing skilled and effective teachers of young children

This policy brief comes from the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) and the Center for the Study of Child Care Employment (CSCCE). It argues that there has been too much focus on debating baseline qualifications such as AA and BA degrees for teachers of young children and not enough focus on the actual education these teachers receive, the support they get for ongoing learning, and the effects of the workplace environment on their teaching practice. Degrees in Context: Asking the Right Questions about Preparing Skilled and Effective Teachers of Young Children is available online at the address below. (updated August 2012)
